Hello Again

Oh Canada, Oh Canada! ha ha

Welcome to Niagara Falls, Canada!

This was our view from our hotel room.

It has been a while since I have found the time to update our blog. I will pick up where Mike left off. After we left Williamsport, we headed north to the Canadian border. It took us roughly 4 hrs. to get there. While driving, we passed a booth that said Niagara Falls and stopped there for what we thought would be just a second. The lady there asked us if we were driving to see the falls and if we had already booked where we were staying. We made the mistake of telling her we had no idea where we were staying. After about 20 of her trying to find a hotel that had rooms in it, Mike and I deciced to take off and try our luck. We left her a tip for her help. On the road Mike decieded to call his mom and have her priceline a room for us.

We were in luck and got a room at the Crown Plaza in Niagara Falls, Canada. We had a wonderful view of the falls. It was our first time to Canada. The area was wonderful, I totally recommend staying on the Canadian side. We did the Maid of the Mist boat ride, and got to see some wonderful fireworks over the falls. It was a very touristy kind of place. To me at least, it was like a boardwalk. Many of the shops and things to do reminded me of a carnival. Tons of fun though. We walked and walked and saw the falls from many different angles. After a while I was done with it, all of it. We enjoyed our stay!

Friday Night they had Fireworks over the Falls. It was beautiful!

Can you say Road Trip?

So Janie is making me write this post because I accidentally erased what she had written. It was actually her fault because she didn't save it, but what can you do....

So Janie was dieing to go on a vacation before she starts working and goes back to school so we decided to take a road trip. The only problem was that we had agreed to babysit Don and Kim's fish while they were gone. I thought about putting the fish in a plastic bag and taking it with us and maybe setting it free in a river or lake somewhere, but I didn't want to have to buy them another fish. Luckily, the Linares family agreed to watch the fish while we were gone for a few days.

We weren't sure where we were going to go. It was either East to New York, Northeast to Boston, South to Carolina, Southwest to Dollyworld, or North to Niagara Falls and Canada....which was it? Place your bets...drum roll........we chose Niagara Falls!

Neither of us had been to Canada or Niagara Falls and don't really plan on living any closer to it in our lifetime, so we thought it was a good choice. We need to make a list of places to go before we end up moving for work, school, or lower home prices.

We packed up our stuff and left, without a place to stay during the weekend ( I don't recommend it). We ended up calling my mom to Priceline a place for us for two of the three nights during the trip...

Well, I plotted our trek to Niagara Falls and decided to drive half-way one night and convenienly planned for the half-way point to be Williamsport, PA. 1 Point to the first person who knows what it is famous for...the Little League World Series. Well like many little boys, I had dreamed about playing as a 12-year old in the little league world series, most likely against an overage Taiwan team, kind of like China's women gymnastics team. Well, besides leading off one of the All-Star games with a homerun ala Rickey Henderson, my team sucked. So this trip, 15 years later would have to do. I brought my baseball glove and a ball that I caught at the A's-Orioles games last year and had planned on running the bases, but this was as close as I got:

We actually just missed the World Series this year by a week. We were a bit too early.

We ended up staying at an old hotel, which was the tallest building in the town, the Genetti Hotel. Famous people had also stayed there, like Warren Spahn, Eleanor Roosevelt, and a couple of Presidents. That was definitely a few years ago, because it wasn't in the best of shape. It was still nice though and included breakfast...my kind of deal.

While there, we also toured two other sites: 1) Millionaire's Row (Williamsport was once home to the most millionaires per capita during the logging golden age). It now is a row of old historic houses.

2) We took the Hiawatha, an old-school boat that took you down the Susquehanna River. As we were embarking the boat it looked like a beautiful day...except for the Summer Day Camp crew that was with us. Then right as the boat took off, this happened:

It did soon calm down and the rest of the ride was dry and pretty. That is pretty much all that is in Williamsport, but it was well worth the stop. We then set off for Niagara Falls.

"End Mike's duty to write"
